HA3 - Task 5 - Audience Identification

Quantitative -

The quantitative researcher asks a specific  closed questions and collect numerical data from the participants who answer the question. The researcher will analyse the data with the help of statistics. This will hopefully result in an unbiased result that can be generalized to a larger population. The techniques they use include surveys and questionnaires.

Qualitative -

Qualitative reseach asks open questions and collects word data from particiapnts. The researcher then looks for themes and describes the information in patterns and themes exclusive to that set of participants. They will use focus groups and face to face interviews to gather their information.

Broadcasters' Audience Research Board -

The broadcasters' audience research board (BARB) provide official viewing figures for the UK television audience. It gets specialist research companies such as RSMB and Kantar Media to collect data which represents the television behaviour in the United Kingdom's 26 million TV viewing households.

This viewing data gives broadcasters, advertisers and other interested parties a minute by minute breakdown of viewing at regional and national levels. This helps with assessing how well other shows have done, and what the best time to air is.
